This training is designed for support staff assisting children or adults with a disability who require nutrition and hydration via a nasogastric (NG) tube. Learners will be provided with the knowledge and practical skills for safe, person-centred support in preparing, administering and monitoring nasogastic feeding in line with individual care plans. This training is competency based and as such; to receive a Statement of Competence, learners must satisfactorily undertake an assessment of knowledge and skills.

Learning Objectives
- Provide NG feeding support that upholds dignity, privacy, choice and cultural sensitivity
- Describe the anatomy, purpose, and common reasons for nasogastric feeding
- Demonstrate correct infection control practices and use of PPE when preparing and administering feeds
- Safely position, prepare, and connect equipment for nasogastric feeding in line with care plans
- Monitor for potential risks, complications, or adverse reactions and take appropriate escalation steps
- Recognise signs of tube dislodgement or blockage and follow reporting and escalation protocols
- Accurately complete documentation relating to nasogastric feeding and care
