Diabetes Training for Support Workers

Support workers have an important part to play in assisting clients with high intensity daily personal support required when living with diabetes. This microcredential develops the knowledge to understand the types of diabetes and their medical management. Common diabetic emergencies, medications, complications of diabetes and strategies for management of diabetes including lifestyle measures are discussed. Participants will practice and demonstrate the skill of blood glucose testing and recording.

The training is competency based. To receive a Statement of Competence, participants must satisfactorily complete an assessment of knowledge and skills.

Option 2 Only:

• Demonstrate infection control procedures


• Demonstrate blood glucose testing


• Understand the difference between hyper and hypoglycaemia

Option 1: 2 hours and 45 minutes live online training and knowledge assessment
Option 2: 2 hours and 45 minutes face-to-face training and assessment
