Urinary Catheter Support Training (IDC and SPC)
Overview/Content
This training is designed specifically for support workers to develop the essential knowledge and skills required to assist participants to manage their urinary elimination needs via a catheter or external drainage device. The trainer will demonstrate the management of different types of catheters and external drainage devices and discuss potential complications.
The training is competency based. To receive a Statement of Competence, participants must satisfactorily complete an assessment of knowledge and skills. This course is consistent with the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptor for Urinary Catheter Support (excluding in-out catheters).

Learning Objectives
- Basic anatomy and physiology of the renal system
- Complications relating to the use of urinary catheters or drainage devices
All Delivery Options:
- Demonstrate in a simulated environment the changing of a urine catheter drainage bag
- Demonstrate in a simulated environment the correct technique for emptying a urine catheter drainage bag
