Complex Bowel Care Training – Enema and Suppository Administration

This microcredential provides support workers with essential knowledge and skills to assist participants with their High Intensity Support Daily Activity (HIDPA) relating to complex bowel care. Support workers learn how to assist participants with their bowel elimination needs and safely administer suppositories or enemas to assist evacuation where necessary.

The training explores different oral laxatives and how they work within the gastrointestinal system. The program emphasises the importance of a support worker understanding and following correct procedures detailed in a participant's support plan for complex bowel care.

The training is competency based. To receive a Statement of Competence, participants must satisfactorily complete an assessment of knowledge and skills. This course is consistent with the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptor for Complex Bowel Care.

Option 1: 2 hours and 30 minutes live online training and knowledge assessment
Option 2: 3 hours live online training with knowledge and practical skills assessment
Option 3: 2 hours and 45 minutes face-to-face training with knowledge and skills assessment
