Mental Health First Aid

This accredited program is based on the International Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) guidelines. This course is suitable for any adult who is providing initial support to another adult with a mental health concern or experiencing a mental health crisis. The program explores the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, where and how to get assistance and what sort of support has been shown by research to be effective.

Mental health first aid strategies are taught in evidence-based training courses authored by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA Instructors across the country. Premium Health offers MHFA Courses as authored by MHFA Australia, delivered by Instructors who are currently accredited by MHFA Australia.

We select our Mental Health trainers carefully. All are mental health professionals with appropriate qualifications, technical expertise and experience in the mental health care sector. This enables them to provide you with quality training which is grounded in experience and knowledge of the field.
Topics include:

  • Exploration of common mental health conditions, including how to recognise signs and symptoms
  • Mental illness explored in detail : Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Substance Use

  • Mental health crisis first aid includes : Suicidal thoughts and behaviours, Non-suicidal self-injury, Panic attacks, Traumatic events and severe psychotic states, Acute effects from alcohol or other drug use, Aggressive behaviours

  • Understand how to assist colleagues, direct reports or others in the workplace

  • Learn where to direct the person to seek help (this may be your own employee assistance programs or broader professional programs)
