Microcredential: Shallow Suctioning of the Oral Cavity
As part of Premium Health's Shallow Suctioning of the Oral Cavity Microcredential, students are required to demonstrate specified knowledge and skills throughout the training and assessment session in order to be deemed competent.
The following applies for training completed from the 1st January 2024.
Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes training and assessment
The person named on the certificate has demonstrated the following knowledge and skills (in a simulated environment):
Prepare to deliver manual handling support:
- Recognise the role and responsibility of the support worker in relation to providing shallow suctioning of the oral cavity according to the client’s plan
- Apply infection control principles
- Prepare the client, explain the procedure and obtain consent
- Gather and assemble required equipment
Perform shallow suctioning of the oral cavity:
- Position the client
- Apply oximeter if appropriate
- Suction the oral cavity
Complete shallow suctioning procedure:
- Ensure client comfort and safety
- Clean and return equipment to designated storage areas
- Identify any reporting requirements
