Microcredential: Diabetes for Support Workers
As part of Premium Health's Diabetes for Support Workers Microcredential, students are required to demonstrate specified knowledge and skills throughout the training and assessment session in order to be deemed competent.
The following applies for training completed from the 1st January 2024.
Duration: 2 hours and 45 minutes training and assessment
The person named on the certificate has demonstrated the following knowledge and skills (in a simulated environment):
Prepare to support a client with diabetes:
- Recognise the role and responsibility of the support worker in relation to supporting a client with diabetes
- Identify the required equipment
- Apply infection control principles
- Prepare the client for blood glucose testing and explain the procedure
Perform blood glucose testing:
- Perform fingerprick and safely dispose of sharp
- Obtain blood drop sample and apply to test strip
- Support client to apply pressure to the wound
- Read the blood glucose level and review parameters for client
Complete the procedure:
- Disposes of test strip appropriately
- Identify reporting and recording requirements
- Store equipment
