Microcredential: Advanced People Manual Handling
As part of Premium Health's Advanced People Manual Handling Microcredential, students are required to demonstrate specified knowledge and skills throughout the training and assessment session in order to be deemed competent.
The following applies for training completed from the 1st January 2024.
Duration: 4 hours training and assessment
The person named on the certificate has demonstrated the following knowledge and skills (in a simulated environment):
Prepare to deliver manual handling support:
- Recognise the role and responsibility of the support worker in relation to providing manual handling support
- Apply infection control principles
- Communicate clearly with participant using specified preference
- Prepare the person for the move or transfer, check footwear
- Prepare the environment for the move or transfer
- Gather any required equipment or aids
Demonstration of safe and effective techniques used in manual handling tasks for clients who are able to assist:
- Walking with a client
- Assist a client from sit to stand
- Lying to sitting
Demonstration of safe and effective techniques used in manual handling tasks for clients who are not able to assist:
- P.A.L Roll (pillow, arm leg)
- Repositioning using slide sheets
- Hoist transfer from bed to chair
Complete manual handling task:
- Ensure client’s safety and comfort
- Return equipment to designated storage areas
- Identify any reporting requirements
