Microcredential: Epilepsy and Seizure Support Training and Midazolam Administration

As part of Premium Health's Epilepsy and Seizure Support Training and Midazolam Administration Microcredential, students are required to demonstrate specified knowledge and skills throughout the training and assessment session in order to be deemed competent.

The following applies for training completed from the 1st January 2024.

Duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes training and assessment

The person named on the certificate has demonstrated the following knowledge and skills (in a simulated environment): 

Prepare to demonstrate management of an unconscious participant on the floor and in a seated position:

  • Recognise the role and responsibility of the support worker and provide support according to basic life support
  • Communicate clearly with participant using specified preference
  • If participant is in a seated position, support head

Demonstrate correct management of an unconscious participant on the floor and in a seated position:

  • Assess airway and ensure safety
  • Immediately send for help
  • Keep participant calm and reassure them

Complete management of an unconscious participant on the floor and in a seated position:

  • Identify reporting and recording requirements
  • Monitor support outcome

Prepare to administer midazolam via intranasal and buccal routes:

  • Recognise the role and responsibility of the support worker and provide support according to the Emergency Medication Management Plan
  • Apply infection control principles
  • Communicate clearly with participant using specified preference
  • Prepare the participant for administration of midazolam

Administer midazolam via intranasal and buccal routes:

  • Perform correct technique for administering midazolam via drip and ampoule method
