This program is designed specifically for support workers to develop the essential knowledge and skills to assist clients to manage their urinary elimination needs via a catheter or external drainage device. Participants will practice and demonstrate using infection control guidelines, the management of different types of catheters and external drainage devices and discuss potential complications.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise the infection control requirements for handling and cleaning urine drainage bags

  • Demonstrate the changing of a urine drainage bag

  • Demonstrate the emptying of a urine drainage bag
