Provide advanced resuscitation

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
Our nurse and paramedic trainers are skilled in advanced resuscitation and will train participants to care and manage a person in cardiac arrest and provide quality instructional skills on advanced life support (correct ratio of rescue breathing to chest compressions). Each participant will have their own manikin to ventilate and compress the chest to perfect their technique.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognise an emergency situation

  • Identify, assess and minimise immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others

  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for advanced resuscitation response

  • Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services where required

Delivery Mode
Premium Health offers 2 delivery options. These options give you the opportunity to choose the way you would like to undertake the course. Shorter course times may mean there is often work to be undertaken online. Not all delivery modes are offered as public training.

  • 4 hours live (zoom) assessment and online e-Learning

  • 6 hours face-to-face training and assessment

More About This Course
Your trainer will be a nurse or a paramedic - there can be no better trainer than one who has "lived" the experience. As a trusted health professional, they will teach the "why" of first aid and are committed to you leaving your course with confidence and competence.
Some topics covered in the advanced resuscitation course are:

  • Assessing the need for oxygen administration
  • Understanding resuscitation equipment and delivery devices
  • Safety precautions, cleaning and disinfection of equipment
  • Equipment familiarisation - assembly and disassembly
  • Correct method of administration of oxygen
  • Use of airway management and suctioning devices
  • Insertion of an oropharyngeal airway
  • Infection control
  • Manual handling techniques

People over the age of 14 years are eligible to attend. Students attending the course are required to demonstrate their physical ability to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor.
