Basic electrocardiogram recording and interpretation

ECGs are a critical aspect of a cardiac assessment and are expected to be widely performed in most clinical settings. Correctly placing the leads is vital to ensuring a high quality diagnostic standard 12-lead ECG. Nurses also need to have basic knowledge of how to interpret a 12-lead ECG, particularly the recognition of ECG changes that may indicate acute cardiac injury or life-threatening arrhythmias that require immediate interventions. This interactive workshop will bring nurses up-to-date and refresh knowledge and skills within this essential cardiac assessment skillset.

Course Content:

• Heart anatomy revision

• Performing an ECG

• Interpreting an ECG

• ECG tracing

• ECG nomenclature

• Recognition of common disease processes and arrhythmias

Duration: 1 day (7.5 hours)
