Epilepsy management

1 in 4 people with a disability are likely to have epilepsy. This course is a must for all support workers who support clients living with epilepsy. The course develops the essential skills and knowledge to understand and recognise epilepsy, trigger factors and the different types of seizures. The management of seizures and different types of medications used to treat epilepsy are discussed, as well as strategies for minimising the risks for clients with epilepsy during everyday activities.

There is an optional additional module available to learn to safely administer intranasal and/or buccal Midazolam according to a client's epilepsy management plan.

• Management of an unconscious casualty

• Safe work practices used in order to reduce the likelihood of injury

What is a USI?

The Unique Student Identifier or USI is a reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters that:

  • creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, even from different training organisations
  • will give you access to your training records and transcripts (available in mid 2016)
  • can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere
Do I need a USI?

The Student Identifiers Act in 2014 requires that all students enrolled in nationally recognised training provide their Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with their USI. This is applicable to all HLT and VIC units.

How long is my course valid?

Provide First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis are valid for 3 years. It is recommended by the ARC that Provide CPR is updated annually
