If there’s one thing Phillipa Wilson knows to be true, it’s that nurses and paramedics make excellent First Aid trainers.
“As a nurse I worked in both Geelong and Melbourne’s largest hospitals in the A&E and intensive care units. I know the value of learning from experienced professionals who understand the pressures of a real-life First Aid emergency.”
After undertaking her training she went on to post-graduate studies in OH&S and Public Health sectors. Phillipa founded Premium Health Pty Ltd in 1989 with a clear vision in mind: To empower everyday Australians with the skills to save lives and make a meaningful difference through premium quality First Aid and Health Training. And she hasn’t stopped since.
First Aid and CPR delivery is, and will always be, hands-on. It requires a level of physicality and environmental awareness that can only be learnt through practical, hands-on training. And the best person to lead that training is an experienced health professional with a nursing and/or paramedical background. It’s our founding principle, and one that sets us apart.
From her humble home office in Victoria, Phillipa set about designing practical first aid training courses of her own, which she would then deliver to government bodies, companies and local sporting communities alike.
With a burgeoning client base comprising a range of industries, each with their own unique risks and requirements, it wasn’t long before Phillipa had to call for backup. In 1995, she enlisted her sisters, both experienced nurses and nurse educators, to work in the management and training areas of Premium Health.
Together, they formalised an expansive range of first aid and health care courses with a focus on innovative, engaging delivery techniques, from Phillipa’s own ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ CPR methodology designed during her Master of Public Health studies at Monash University, to one of the industry’s first First Aid audio-visual materials launched in 2001.
Today, with a passionate staff of over 100-strong delivering training across Victoria, NSW, QLD, SA and WA, Premium Health continues to grow as a dynamic business, evolving in response to its clients’ needs and delivering on its promise to provide nothing short of premium quality, nurse and paramedic-led training – without compromise.
As Founder and Managing Director of Premium Health, Phillipa takes pride in evolving her business to the needs of her clients and the broader Australian community, ensuring every training experience reflects her founding vision of premium quality without compromise. A subject matter expert in the design and delivery of First Aid and Health Training, Phillipa is currently Deputy Chair of the First Aid Industry Reference Committee representing Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET), and serves as Australian Resuscitation Council (Vic Branch) Secretary.
A former division 1 registered nurse, Phillipa currently holds a Master of Public Health degree, a Graduate Diploma in Health Science (Occupational Health), a Diploma in Training and Assessment Systems and a Cert IV in Training and Assessment.

Earlier this year I performed CPR on my husband. I could not believe how quickly I remembered the timing and because I felt so confident I did not panic.
